On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, representing Louisiana as a Republican, reiterated his full support for ex-President Donald Trump in a statement.
Speaking on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Johnson declared, “I have fully endorsed him. I’ve been among his strongest allies in Congress. Under his leadership, we witnessed unparalleled economic growth worldwide, not just in the U.S. It’s the success of his policies that I stand behind.”
Johnson emphasized his commitment, saying, “I’m completely on board with President Trump, and I’m confident he will be our nominee.”
He further elaborated that the primary aim is to bring Trump’s economic strategies back to the forefront in the 2024 presidential race.
“We need to ensure that President Biden does not get a second term,” Johnson stated firmly.
His comments followed an exclusive interview with Greta Van Susteren on Newsmax’s “The Record,” during which he highlighted his support for Trump’s policies and his role in Trump’s impeachment defense in the House.
Johnson criticized the Democrats for what he saw as misusing the impeachment process during Trump’s tenure. “It was a regrettable misuse of power. I stood in defense of President Trump during both impeachment trials, condemning the actions as egregious,” he recounted to Van Susteren.
Additionally, he pointed out the shortcomings in President Biden’s foreign policy compared to Trump’s approach.
“The current global aggressions we’re witnessing probably wouldn’t be happening under Trump’s leadership. Unfortunately, President Biden seems to project weakness internationally,” Johnson observed.
In his CNBC appearance, Johnson also raised concerns about what he termed “lawfare,” a tactic he accused the Democrats and the Biden Justice Department of using against Trump.
“The treatment of President Trump is without precedent,” he noted, suggesting a correlation between legal actions against Trump and his positive polling results.
