Biden Biographer: No ‘Total Shock’ if He Drops Out

Franklin Foer, a biographer whose book on President Joe Biden’s initial two years in office is set to be released this week, suggested that it wouldn’t be completely surprising if Biden decides not to run for reelection in 2024.

While speaking to NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd, Foer said, “I would say it would, it would be a surprise to me. But it wouldn’t be a total surprise,” as reported by The Hill.

Even though Biden, who is 80 years old, has not shown any signs of withdrawing from the race, Foer noted that the president frequently uses the term “fate” when discussing his life.

Foer explained, “Joe Biden is a very religious guy and fate is a word loaded with religious meaning.” He added that Biden often remarks that he can’t predict where fate will lead him, which Foer interprets as an indication of uncertainty about his own future.

Both Democrats and Republicans have raised concerns about Biden’s age. However, Foer, author of “The Last Politician,” mentioned that Biden has consistently been “underestimated” throughout his political career, which has often worked to his advantage.

Foer’s book also delves into Biden’s policy-making career and the strategies he employs. Foer remarked, “It doesn’t take Bob Woodward to understand that Joe Biden is old,” adding, “I’m not a gerontologist and I can’t predict how the next couple of years will age Joe Biden.”

Foer also described Biden as a detail-oriented individual, deeply involved in policy intricacies, and an “activist president” who closely oversees many White House operations.
